Greywater City, SimCity 3000

Second Note: KINDA made a mistake in saving the city after an... experiment, and now it's kinda ruined, there's a big Berlin-wall like wall running through it; Greywater controls the upperside of the Western Side of the River (mostly) and Ddraig the East, but also has the stuff running along the edge of the river, going all the way up to the City hall, from which the wall was built from.

Note: Perhaps I should note that the city actually looks a little different now to how it did when I took this pic, it's a little bigger now, so I'm wondering if I should do an updated version of this.

Ok, here's another little... Lets call it a leaflet about the city of Greywater, named after it's ruler and founder, Lord Alexander Greywater.

There is a lot of things to talk about here, the first of which is the platform on which I made the city.
All of you who remember when I made my leaflet, thing, for the city of Drakenholm (for those who don't, look at this link: [link]§ion=&global=1&q=Drakenholm#/d4s4tcq . PS: Interesting fact, originally, the name Drakenholm was used in a Spore fiction I once made, and the name Drakenholm was used for a 'Planet of the Dragons'), you will remember I used SimCity Societies to make the city of Drakenholm. However, with Greywater, I wanted to have a format which made a somewhat more realistic city.
Societies has some pros over 3000, but 3000 has pros over Societies. Overall, you have more control over Societies than 3000, looking at the "Bird's Eye" picture of Greywater, you'll see that there is a LOT of building repetition there (particularly along the river for some reason, AND the world-trade-centre-like buildings which were called "Silver Tower" in-game appear a LOT too, I actually tore down a lot of them and replaced them with 'husk buildings' via a cheat to make the city more realistic. Societies has more control, but the city is just less realistic than 3000.

The city is built along a river, considering this is in Holland, I imagine that the river is the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt, but considering how that river travels westerly and the best northerly part of the river travels through a national park, I'm probably wrong.
The West of the city is the larger, and more prosperous, side of the city, where the majority of the rich and the powerful live, it also houses the city's CBD (Commercial Business District) and Alexander Square, where the Greywater Palace can be found. It is also home to the Grey Broadcasting Alliance (GBA) and the homes of many of the Grey Lords, whom of which Greywater has granted land and money to build dubious mansions and palaces of their own upon, after all, keep your friends close, am I right? Meanwhile, the East of the city is the Industrial areas, which are considerably run-down and poverty-stricken in comparison. That isn't to say there are NO wealthy areas there, in recent years the region has seen more prosperity, but overall remains a polluted, inner and outer city mess.
Overall, entering Greywater is like entering another country. What is typical of Ddraigtanto's Avalar is considerably more socialist, with much more public funding into welfare and, overall, there is more of a balance, the poor are richer but the rich are poorer, generally creating a more middle-ground population, in theory at least. However, Greywater is a considerably more conservative city. As a result, there is very little in terms of government interference, at least in commercial matters, and very little public spending. As a result, it creates a system where companies have more freedom than the rest of Avalar, and the rich get richer easily, but the poor on the over hand tend to get downtrodden and public services leave a lot to be desired; not to mention the poor mass transit, leaving Greywater with the worst Subway congestion in Avalar.

I suppose I might as well come to the confessions now, or the disclaimer, or whatever.
First off, I mention in my picture's blurb that a lot of the buildings are based off other buildings. That is in fact a lie: They ARE the actual buildings. The truth is, I used the landmarks selection in 3000 to chose a 'palace-like' building for Greywater's palace, and for a LONG time it was going to be the city hall of Berlin, then it was going to be 3000's equivalent of the Harem, or, the temple which Mecca is famous for, then it was going to be some French castle which name escapes me, before I settled on this.
What you're looking at is actually the city hall for San Francisco, but I think I can be forgiven, because the REAL city hall, from the pictures I seen, is somewhat wider, shorter, and is made of a more 'white-coloured' stone than the SimCity version (view Google Images for Proof: [link] ) and was built to replace the OLD city hall which was destroyed some time during the early 20th Century, so, considering Greywater was built during the 19th Century, it technically means, in this story's universe, Greywater's Palace was built BEFORE the present city hall of San Francisco, so I think I get away with it there.
Long story short, the creation of the palace you see in the second picture was made from an elaborate cheat sequence, where you select the "Power" buildings, then the "Gift" buildings, then the "Waste Disposal" buildings, then the "Landmark" buildings, then in the landmark buildings, you get a list of every building which is used in the game, literally, even landfill tiles can be selected from here, but most of them do NOTHING at all, and are the Husk buildings I mentioned earlier. What I did here was chose the San Francisco city hall as normal, but then selected various plaza options, before surrounding it with "The Wall", and topping it off with two copies of the Brandenburg Gate, because, in a scenario in this game, you are tasked with tearing down the Berlin wall, which is made up of various bits of "The Wall" which I mentioned earlier, which is VERY BIG, and the outer rim of the wall is little more than small parks, which you can build WITHOUT cheating.

My next confession comes with the "Fortress of Law" which is in the third picture. Again, this building is actually the Alcatraz Complex, again, in San Francisco (Wow, I'm really ripping off San Francisco, sorry. ^^;). Again, I used the landmarks to make the famous prison, then I used the husk building cheat to plop down some empty tarmac lots to make a courtyard, then surrounded it with The Wall, only this time, I used the Landmark "The Alamo" to make that fancy walled building you see there, even the ruins surrounding it are husks, all those buildings which look abandoned or destroyed are actually husks (which is obvious when you look at the 8 little abandoned boxes in the top of the 2nd picture).

Long story short, I used the Husk cheat a LOT here, and some cases are more obvious than others, most of the time it was to build the fancy halls and palaces, or government buildings, of Greywater, since it's a den for all the rebellious lords of Avalar which make up Alexander's noble buddies, and I won't even MENTION the extent of how the actual in-game of this city is ACTUALLY in 2143AD, and most of the city is being powered by FUSION and waste-to-energy burners at this point, I added some coal power stations to TRY to make it look like a more present-day city and drag down land values of the 'slum' area, but even the POWER STATION looks like the Battersea power station in London!! I can't win! :fork:

Right, that just about sums it up, I can't think of anything else to say, save from thanking you for reading this far, I just had a lot to say about this city.

Ddraigtanto (Ddraig), Alexander (Greywater) and his city belong to me.
Simcity 3000 and Simcity societies belong to Maxis.

Owww... That city hurts my opinion of Alexander. This looks like an Eastern-Germany/North-Korea dictatorship capitol, and all those slums and ruined buildings would never exist in the South Holland I know, or any part of the country. Are people happily living here? That architecture is also nothing like Rotterdam (which was built very modernistic after getting bombed to the ground in WWII) or Amsterdam (which has really typical 18th-century houses), it's too bombastic. Especially the palace looks like something Stalin would build. There's also too much room between buildings, everything in real big cities here is tightly packed. And the streets form a grid! No city here has that, not even planned cities such as Almere, which were built from scratch in reclaimed land in the 60's.

Note: I'm just comparing it to real cities in the area. Of course Alexander could have just built it the way he wanted and ignored all local traditions and regulations, but only if he was being a really stubborn megalomaniac.
