Ok, I mentioned this in an RP yesterday, but I was never spercific.
I have a theory as to why Cynder changed colour, gained new powers, and didn't die in DotD. Amongst over various things which remain unmentioned.
The answer: Her braclets.
Now, there has already been all manner of ideas relating to those acursed things. One I remember was that they used to be schakles, but were transformed into cursed braclets when she was made huge and evil before aNB. My theory takes things a lot further than that.
Only Malefor and the Ansestors truely know the potential of them, even Cynder isn't fully aware of the nature of things stuck around her neck and legs.
The bracelets are legendary things, passed down along a sacred line known as 'The Silhouette'. The bracelets infuse the wearer with great power and longevity, but at the cost of changing the wearer drasticly if worn long enough. Although, perhaps 'drasticly' is an unfair term; seeing as the personality will remain the same, only the abilities and appearance will change.
Once worn, the bracelets and choker form a single solid ring, and despite being made of silver, are impossible to cut with convencial means, making it almost impossible to remove the jewelery once warn; however, if in the event that they ARE removed (Like in the case of Cynder, when her size was reverted back to that of a young child, and the jewelery fell away before they could resize themselves, for they can do that, to lock to Cynder's new form), the changes will stop, however, if the changes have not occured, the power assoiated with the bracelets will remain within them, and it will effectively leave the wearer without elements (as Cynder was and still is naturally a wind and fire dragon, as a result of her parents genes) until the birth elements naturally form.
The changes to Cynder's appearance between tEN and DotD can be explained with the return of her bracelets. My theory is, Malefor, knowing their power, found them, and somehow managed to manipulate the time crystal stasis to return the bracelets to Cynder, thus allowing the transformation to be completed in the three years they were trapped (The process is much faster on children, for their bodies are still growing).
The last, and perhaps most crucial thing is this: If the wearer dies prematurely while wearing the bracelets, they can be removed without difficulty, and should they be placed ONTO another dragon or dragoness of a similar age, the bracelets will transform the wear into the previous owner, thus potentially making Cynder immortal, unless she ever has children, then, if she were to die, the bracelet's power would be transferred down her bloodline.
There could be possible exceptions to the rule above though; if the previous owner died naturally (of old age or other natural cause, i.e. NOT murder) the bracelets would simply fall off, and pass their power to the next wearer; this is also potentially the case if the bracelets are somehow removed, and placed onto a wearer of radical differences to the previous (For example, if the bracelets were removed from Cynder, a young obsidian-scaled dragon girl, and placed onto, say, a human, two possible things could happen: Firstly, the above paragraph may happen, causing colossal metamorphasis and even a sex-change if the wearer is foolish enough to be male, or, the power could be transferred to the wearer; in the case of dragons, the same thing could occur, and is more likely.) In addition, there is the question of why Cynder HERSELF didn't transform into the previous wearer? There could be one of many possible answers to this question:
- The wearer could have removed them, and no other wearer was found, so they slowly reverted back to an 'unworn' state, and effectively 'reset' the wearer classifications, meaning if Cynder put them on, it would act like she transformed into herself. But this too has implications, in which case, it took elements of power in her nearby environment to make the trnasformation, which in her case, was Spyro; resulting in her slowly changing into a kind of obsidian dragon (which is the mixture of black and purple genes in the rare occasion that the purple dragon gene does not affect the DNA, for the purple dragon genes are Dominant, and often render other scale colours recessive)
- The wearer could've died of natural causes, and the bracelets fell away to find a new host.
- The wearer (unlikely) could've been very much like Cynder herself.
Of cause, there WILL be flaws in my theory, if you have questions, please ask.
